Reading Notes: Babbit. Jataka Tales Part B

 The Elephant Girly-Face

-Elephant named Girly-Face because he was gentle and kind.

-Robbers came in the night and started talking near Girly-Face's cage. They said that robbers must act cruel and mean.

-Girly-Face took that as a teaching lesson and she started being cruel no matter what. She killed two keepers and nobody wanted to go near her.

-The wise man that knew Girly-Face said she must have heard some people talking badly, and the keepers said there were robbers earlier.

-The king then sent men to sit near her stall and talk about how everyone should be gentle and kind.

-Girly-Face heard and started being gentle and kind again.

The King's White Elephant

-Carpenters were by the river bank when a limping Elephant came up to them.

-The Elephant had a splinter in his foot and the carpenters pulled it out. The Elephant was so grateful, he helped the carpenters.

-When the Elephant had a white Elephant son, he brought him to work so he can learn and help the carpenters also.

-The son helped and caught the attention of the king, and he lived comfortably with the king for the rest of his life.
