Reading Notes: Mahabharata Part C

 Story Focus

I found the story between Draupadi and Kichaka interesting to read. It seems like Draupadi cannot catch a break from men trying to be with her. Queen Sudeshna's brother, Kichaka, was a general that became obsessed with Draupadi and wanted to have her. Draupadi warned him that she was married to the Pandavas, and to leave her alone for his sake but he disregards the threats.

She asked for protection from Kichaka's sister, Queen Sudeshna. She told Draupadi that he would not hurt her, so she went to the King. He, as well as Yudhishthira, also ignored her. She felt so betrayed like she did the night of the gambling; however, Bhima told her he had a plan and would protect her.

She invited Kichaka to dance one night, and when he arrived Bhima jumped out of the darkness and squeezed him to death. The King grew suspicious of Draupadi, but she said she gave Kichaka warnings of her husbands. The King realizing this, became afraid and spared them.
