Reading Notes: Mahabharata Part A

 Character Focus

For Part A, I chose to focus on the character of King Shantanu. I have read some of the Mahabharata before, and have never read his story. I found his story to be very fateful and karmic.

King Shantanu's wives

- Ganga: Took human birth to drown all of King Shantanu's wives for his actions as Mahabhisha. She did not drown the eighth child, Devavrata.

-Satyavati: Birthed from a fish and raised by a fisherman. Her father would not let her marry him unless their son would inherit the throne. Devavrata renounced the throne and marriage and became Bhishma. Shantanu and Satyavati had two sons. One of his sons died in battle before marriage and the other was very young when he became king. Bhisha goes to Kashi to find a princess for his half-brother.
