Reading Notes: Ramayana Part D

 Story Focus

Something I found really interesting to follow while reading Part D was the loyalty of Sita. The story began after the war had ended and Rama emerged victoriously. When Sita reunited with Rama, he believed that he had done his duty of killing Ravana and that Sita could be free from him, since there would be public gossip around her loyalty. Sita proved to Rama that she was faithful by entering the fire and not getting burned.

After they returned to Ayodhya, Rama becomes king and Sita is pregnant. However, there is still gossip about Rama and Sita, and the fact that Rama still accepted Sita despite her being in another man's house. Rama then made Lakshmana take Sita to Valmiki's ashram and leave her there.

Sita stayed with Valmiki and give birth to twins. Her twins later sang in front of Rama, and he concluded that Sita gave birth to them. Sita returned to Ayodhya to prove her loyalty, and she snuck into the earth with earth-goddess Bhumi forever.

Rama forever memorialized her with golden statues and never remarried.
