Reading Notes: Ramayana Part B

 Character Focus

The character I chose to focus on for the Part B reading is Hanuman. I chose to focus on Hanuman because I always thought he was very interesting to learn about, and many people are already familiar with the name from mentions in popular media.

Birth Stories of Hanuman

- Guatama's wife Ahalya conceived sons with storm-god Indra and sun-god Surya. Guatama cursed her sons and turned them into monkeys. His daughter, Anjana was cursed to stand on top of Mount Kailasha, and the wind-god and her conceived Hanuman.

-Anjana was a shape-shifting monkey. She went to Vayu, the wind-god, in human form. Vayu stated that she will bear his son, and then conceived Hanuman.

-A crow took some kheer that conceived Rama to a mountaintop where Anajana was and she conceived Hanuman.
